STEP 1 / PREPARATIONS

Ninite https://ninite.com has been a favorite for most people who regularly install basic software. It is an indispensable tool if you want to provide your computer with a fresh installation, or if you have to help a friend out of trouble. Ninite collects a lot of freeware from which you can choose. Then you will get a custom installer that automatically installs all selected programs without your intervention and without any unwanted extras offered by some software during the installation process. Before visiting Ninite, think about what software you need. For example, find out which antivirus package you would like, and with which media player you want to play your music and videos.

STEP 2 / CHOOSE

When you navigate to Ninite, you see that the list to choose from has become quite long. To keep the overview, you will get all the programs presented in different lists, such as Media, Security and Online Storage. you may have never heard of a number of programs, but most will probably ring a bell. Never check all programs under the motto 'the more the better, because for example if you install multiple antivirus programs, which will then work against each another. I always select Chrome, VLC, AVG, Malwarebytes, Dropbox, Everything, Revo and 7-Zip. Also choose your favorite PDF reader, or, e.g. open office if you do not use MS-Office.

STEP 3 / INSTALL

Once you've made your choice, click the big green button GET INSTALLER. You will be directed to a new page with all your url choices, and your custom installation file will be automatically retrieved. If not, click on RETRY THE DOWNLOAD. All you have to do is start the installer with a double click and wait until everything is installed. Ninite will not provide you with any dialog box. It automatically rejects any 'deals' and install the 64-bit version of the software if you are running a 64-bit operating system.

Step 4 After the installation you get an overview. If all of your programs are up to date, you'll see it here too.

STEP 4 / UPDATE

If the installation (s) have been completed, do not delete the installation file, but save it in your Documents folder. With Ninite, you can also keep those installed programs up to date. The paid version does this automatically, but you must launch the free version yourself. It is enough to simply re-run the installer so that he will look for updates of all packages that are in your personal installer. If updates are found, he will install it in the same silent way. With a double click every month, you're completely up to date. Would you like to install additional software later, then you only need to create a new installer on Ninite.
