 HP ENVY 5640

Printers have been in existence since human memory, yet it remains difficult to find the perfect one. Does the Envy 5640 claim the title?

The HP Envy 5640 is a sturdy All in One, both literally and figuratively. Small and fine you cannot call the printer, beautifully finished certainly. After you have pulled all tape and plastic outwards and inwards it is time for the installation.

HP's printer can handle the online services of the manufacturer, but if you do not want it, the installation will run very quickly. After all, you can easily add the all-in-one printer to your Wi-Fi network. On your computer, just navigate to the control panel and add the printer. In no time your device is ready to print. You can of course also use the included installation CD-ROM, which, in addition to the necessary drivers, also contains too much bloatware.

This way you get the option to install some useless software from HP itself and asks the wizard whether you want Google Chrome with a special toolbar. These unsolicited advertising, given the price of the printer, is downright rude to mention. Fortunately, the printer itself performs properly. From the moment you click on print in Word, it takes about 15 seconds before a printed black and white text page appears. A colored spreadsheet takes about 20 seconds. We then test how fast the printer is with printing a black and white 40-page course and it turned out to be 4 minutes and 20 seconds. The Envy print smoothly double-sided, convenient and environmentally friendly. On photo paper you can print very beautiful pictures. The colors are true and deep, and the sharpness is decent for an inkjet printer.

Of course, you can do more than just print with an All-in-One. Copying and scanning are also possible. A color photo takes 32 seconds to load, but the result is on the dull side. Not disastrous, but there are better scanners. Finally, the Envy connects with your smartphone, so mobile printing is one of the options. Also for an SD card there is a place, unfortunately not for a USB stick. Overall, the 5640 Envy is a solid all-in-one that gives us no wow feeling, but never really disappoints.

129 euros (at time of writing)
+ Easy network installation, fast, easy to use.
